How is a brow lift performed?

During a brow lift, the muscles and tissues in the forehead are removed or sculpted to smooth the area, raise the eyebrows, and minimize frown lines. Dr. Kim will help you decide which of the following approaches may be best to achieve your cosmetic goals.

Traditional brow lift

In a traditional brow lift, the incision starts at ear level and runs across the top of the forehead down to the other ear. The incision is usually hidden behind the hairline so that the scar should not be visible after healing. If your hairline is high or receding, the incision may be placed just at the hairline. For bald people, Dr. Kim may use a mid-scalp incision that follows the natural pattern of the skull bones.

Working through the incision, the skin of the forehead is carefully lifted so that the excess tissue can be removed, and the forehead muscles can be altered or released. The eyebrows may also be elevated, and excess skin will be trimmed away to help create a smoother, more youthful appearance.

Endoscopic brow lift

In an endoscopic forehead lift, Dr. Kim makes 3 to 5 short scalp incisions, each incision less than an inch in length. She then inserts an endoscope, a pencil-like camera device connected to a television monitor, through one of the incisions, allowing her to have a clear view of the muscles and tissues beneath the skin.

Another instrument is used to lift the forehead skin, muscles, and underlying tissues to produce a smoother appearance. The eyebrows may also be lifted and secured into their higher position by sutures beneath the skin’s surface or by temporary fixation screws placed behind the hairline.
