What is the breast reduction procedure?

Breast reduction surgery removes fat, glandular tissue and skin from the breasts, making them smaller in size, firmer and lighter on the body’s frame. The procedure can also reduce the size of the areolas to bring them into proportion with the breasts. The nipple structure may be moved to a more youthful position at the front of the breasts.

What are the incisions in a breast reduction?

Reduction mammoplasty involves the same incision patterns as for breast lift. The most common breast reduction incision types are:

Circumareolar incision: This incision will circle the areola to remove breast tissue underneath. While this incision may have the least risk of visible scars, it is not always an effective technique for women who require a significant amount of breast tissue removed.
Lollipop or keyhole incision: This incision circles the areola and travels vertically from the lower edge of the areola to the crease below the breast.
Anchor incision: This incision circles the areola, travels vertically to the crease below the breast and travels a short distance along the breast crease on either side. While this approach is the most involved technique, it can produce the best results in women who require a large amount of breast tissue removed.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Kim will carefully remove necessary amount of breast tissue from each breast to create symmetrical and natural-looking results.
