An arm lift, technically called a brachioplasty, is a procedure in which excess fat and skin are surgically removed from the upper arms to create a firm, fit, more attractive look to saggy-looking upper arms.

Are you tired of having droopy, flabby upper arms?

It is an unfortunate fact that the body (particularly for women) can store fat in the upper arms. Once fit, firm upper arms that revealed muscle definition may now be very unattractive, with excess skin and fat. Women who live with this condition tend to avoid wearing sleeveless tops or any other clothing that will reveal the condition of their arms. An arm lift can resolve this aesthetic problem, creating firm, fit upper arms once again.

Am I a candidate for an arm lift?

If you are in good general health and safe to undergo surgery, you are likely a good candidate for an arm lift.

Many women (and men) may choose to have this surgery to resolve any of the following aesthetic issues:

  • Excess fat lodged in upper arms
  • Large, unsightly upper arms
  • Lack of muscle definition
  • Excess hanging skin on upper arms (“bat wings”)
  • Droopy, flabby upper arms
  • Sagging skin on upper arms

How is an arm lift performed?

The first step in any plastic surgery is a personal evaluation of your current condition. Most people require more than liposuction, but some patients who have very firm, flexible skin may be able to achieve results with liposuction alone.

The surgery is performed by making incisions on the underside of your upper arms to access the fatty deposits and remove excess skin. The incisions are then carefully sutured, and the procedure is complete.

For people with moderate to extensive skin excess, they will require skin excision and/or liposuction. In most cases, general anesthesia is used for this procedure.

What is the recovery from an arm lift like?

You will require several weeks to fully recover from arm lift surgery. While it requires some patience, the results of surgery can be life-changing. Imagine feeling free to wear sleeveless tops, and to have your upper arms restored to a firm, fit, shapely look, with hanging skin and tissue gone forever. It is worth the wait, which is three to five days before you can return to work or be able to drive. After about four weeks, you should be given the approval of Dr. Kim to return to your regular exercise program.

Arm Lift FAQ's

Is an arm lift painful?

Any surgery involves incisions and some discomfort. You will have a prescription for pain medication, so you stay comfortable during the early stages of healing. Specialized numbing medication may be added to help control the pain for the first few days after your surgery.

What about scars?

You will have scars, but they will be located on the underside of your upper arms. We help our patients with all aspects of healing, including scar management. By the time you are fully healed, the incision sites should appear like a fine white line, not particularly visible.

What is a mini-arm lift?

A mini arm lift is simply an arm lift in which the incisions are shorter. This is an appropriate procedure for those with less excess skin and fat. In some cases, the incision can be made in the armpit. A personal evaluation of your upper arms will reveal which surgical technique will be most effective in creating firm, fit upper arms in your case.
