Beauty Superfoods
At SGK Plastic Surgery, Dr. Sugene Kim and our team of plastic surgery professionals take beauty seriously. We know our patients want to look and feel their best, and we offer a range of safe and effective treatments to help them achieve their cosmetic goals.
There are things that our patients can do on their own to boost their beauty quotient. Exercise is important, and following a healthy diet is key!
Here, Dr. Kim shares a list of beauty superfoods to eat for gorgeous skin and hair.
Bell Peppers
Vitamin C-rich foods like bell peppers are great for collagen production. Collagen is a foundation for radiant skin and thick, strong hair.
Spinach
Spinach is packed with lutein (important for eye health and clear, sparkling eyes!). If your eyes already sparkle, but wrinkles and creases distract from their beauty, consider treatment with Dr. Kim. Blepharoplasty or brow lift surgery can restore a youthful look to the eye area.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are chock-full of the anti-aging antioxidant lycopene. And, according to an article in Fitness magazine, your body is better able to absorb lycopene when the tomato has been cooked or processed. Canned tomatoes are fine!
Walnuts
A daily handful of walnuts is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E. These nutrients are essential for healthy hair, bright eyes and strong bones.
Tea
White or green tea is full of catechin, a potent antioxidant that nourishes your skin. If you enjoy a nightly cup of tea but your skin isn’t showing the benefits, talk to Dr. Kim about your non-surgical skin rejuvenation options (like laser skin resurfacing or chemical peels).
Low-Fat Yogurt
Want healthy, beautiful teeth? Make sure you’re eating foods with calcium, like low-fat yogurt. Check the nutrition label to make sure it’s not too sugary (thereby cancelling out the health benefits!).
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil seems to be everywhere — and for good reason. When applied topically, it hydrates the skin and can even soothe conditions such as eczema. Coconut oil can also be consumed (use it in cooking as you would olive oil) to enjoy its anti-oxidant benefits.
Açaí Berry
Açaí not only tastes great in smoothies and juices, but also has high levels of anthocyanins (antioxidants) that prevent free radical damage to the skin. According to an article in Prevention, acai berry also reduces swelling and inflammation, making it a great option for those that suffer from acne, eczema and psoriasis.
Almonds
Not only are almonds a good source of flavonoids (integral for a healthy heart), they can also ward off harmful free radicals and oxidative damage, according to a feature in Allure. Try a handful of almonds a day and watch your skin start to glow.
What Diet Cannot Fix
There is no doubt that diet is important to health and beauty, but even the healthiest eaters may feel self-conscious of an aspect of their looks. Diet will have no bearing on facial features that look noticeably aged, or out of proportion with one another.
Dr. Kim can address your cosmetic concerns with a customized treatment plan. She can improve the signs of aging or enhance the harmony between your facial features. Please contact SGK Plastic Surgery today by calling (281) 363-4546 and schedule an informational consultation.
