3 Signs You’re Ready for a Facelift
Most people don’t wake up one day and realize it’s time to get a facelift. At our Houston-area practice in The Woodlands, Dr. Kim’s facelift patients typically decide to come in for a consultation after a few years of wondering about the procedure. Most good candidates for facelift surgery exhibit these 3 telltale signs that it’s time:
- Looking tired, even when you feel rested: Are your family members, coworkers, and friends constantly asking you if you are tired? Unfortunately, stress, gravity, heredity, and sun exposure can take their toll on your face, making you look tired even after a good night’s sleep. When skin becomes lax and the face begins to lose volume, the cheeks can become flattened or sunken, tissue can accumulate along the jawline, and the corners of the mouth can become downturned. All of this can contribute to a weary, fatigued look.
- Deep lines and wrinkles: Fine wrinkles are often the first signs of aging, but deeper lines and wrinkles are an indication that it might be time for surgery. Nasolabial folds—the “parentheses” that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth—are one of the most common complaints people look to correct with a facelift. Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth straight down the chin and can cause the look of a permanent scowl. When these and other lines become deeply etched in the face and neck, facelift surgery is often the best solution.
- Loss of definition in the neck and chin area: With age, fat pads in the cheeks begin to descend and our skin begins to sag. As tissues migrate south, the lower face becomes fuller and jowls develop. The jawline loses its youthful definition, and fat accumulation in this area can contribute to the look of a double chin. The neck skin, too, becomes lax and wrinkled, often resulting in the appearance of a “turkey neck.”
If you have some or all of these 3 signs, it may be time to schedule a consultation with Dr. Kim. During this private appointment, she will evaluate your skin and face and recommend a treatment plan that fits your needs.
Often patients are reluctant to consider a facelift because they are worried that they will end up with an unnatural or “overdone” look. However, Dr. Kim uses advanced surgical techniques for her facelift patients. These days, if you choose an experienced plastic surgeon who specializes in facial procedures, it is possible to achieve youthful, yet subtle results.
Facelift surgery doesn’t just pull the skin tight, it lifts and repositions the underlying muscles and fat to restore youthful contours. Dr. Kim knows that each person’s face is unique, so each surgery must be unique as well. She carefully considers your specific facial features and customizes a procedure that will address your needs. She also recognizes that surgery is not for everyone, so she offers plenty of nonsurgical options for facial rejuvenation, such as injectables and laser treatments.
